Yoga Supplies
Aside from yoga pants, shoes, and mats, there are a few accessory yoga supplies that may help in the quest for yogic perfection.
Yoga belts
Not the kind of belts that hold up pants, but belts or 'straps' that one can use to grasp limbs that are otherwise too far away to reach. A belt can be anything from an actual pants belt to a strip of sturdy fabric. There are many different colors and lengths to choose from, the most popular being about 6 feet in length.
Foam blocks
Some people like a little support when doing yoga, and foam blocks do the trick just nicely. They provide the support or height needed to do poses more effectively. These foam blocks can be placed under the hips, hands, or heels to provide a comfortable, stable base. Foam is also much easier to transport than wood, and many are made from recycled plastics.
Pillows
At the end of a fulfilling yoga session, a relaxation or cool down period can be the ultimate reward. To aid in this effort are yoga pillows: a thin, cylindrical one to support the neck, and a thin, flat one to put over the eyes. Both will help shut out the world and provide comfort for a well deserved rest.
There are also, of course, a plethora of yoga DVD's and yoga books available on all aspects of the subject. It's best to ask around and get a feel for who's who and what's what when it comes to yoga instruction on DVD or in books.
