Yoga Instruction

yoga instruction

Finding the right yoga instruction can be as easy as going to your local yoga center, or as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack. There are just as many styles, classes, and schools that offer yoga instruction as there are grains of sand on the beach. So, the problem then becomes, how to find the right yoga instruction for you.

In order to find the right combination of yoga type, yoga school, and yoga instructor, you will need to first assess your own personal needs. Ask yourself:

  • Do I want the purely physical benefits from yoga, or do I need a more spiritual dimension?

Try Hatha or power yoga simply for the physical benefits. Try kundalini or kriya yoga to find inner peace.

  • Do I want to train from someone who is certified in a specific style of yoga, or will any old instructor do?

Bikram yoga and Iyengar yoga instructors are strictly bound to become certified instructors. Virtually every other style of yoga has no such regulations on who is qualified to teach.

  • Do I want to study the latest, more modern yoga styles, or something that is more traditional?

Power yoga, Bikram yoga, and Ashtanga yoga are all modern transformations of more traditional yoga practices. While they styles base their principals on ancient wisdom, they each have their own spin on things.

With these objectives in mind, you can begin to narrow down the search for quality yoga instruction.
