Yoga for Beginners
Part 1
Yoga for beginners need not be a daunting task. Although the techniques seen in most yoga for beginners videos seem impossible or difficult, they are in fact attainable by the beginner.
Here are some essential guidelines for the beginning yoga practitioner:
- The morning hour before breakfast is the best time to start yoga. The mind and body is clear and fresh, so the movements can be done with ease.
- Seek a quite place which is well ventilated, free from dust, insects, and odors. There should be no distractions.
- Empty your bowels and bladder, clean the nostrils and throat of all mucus to ensure easy of movement and breath.
- Practice easy postures before going on to more advanced ones. Ease into each posture and do not push beyond your limits until your body allows.
- Feel free to relax when needed. It is better to take short breaks in between postures rather than create fatigue which will diminish your experience.
- A balanced diet is recommended to ensure a stable, healthy body for yoga. The recommended vegetarian diet should consist of:
30% grains and cereals
20% dairy products
25% vegetables
20% fruits and honey
5% nuts
- Wear either loose clothing that breathes well, or snug clothing that allows for maximum mobility (tights, leotards, spandex, etc.).
- Breathing should be long and deep through the nose only.
- A yoga mat is not necessary, but highly recommended for comfort and stabilization.
