Yoga for Beginners

Part 2

Yoga itself is as complex and engaging as it is refreshing and beneficial. As such, any class that offers yoga for beginners should stress that you not push yourself too hard – this kind of fitness will require conditioning of its own type.

Those just starting out in yoga will first want to select a space to learn that is free of distractions and comfortable. You will also want to feel at ease with your yoga instructor, who will be in charge of your learning experience.

Be sure to wear appropriate yoga clothing. Yoga clothes are specifically designed for comfort, and will move with your body as you stretch and reposition yourself. In the past only specific stores carried yoga clothing, but today just about any department store or fitness locale will offer a variety of yoga clothes at an affordable price.

And don’t forget your yoga mat! A non-slip, slightly foamy yoga mat will protect your back and your joints from unnecessary strain.

Yoga for beginners will focus mainly on the three most important aspects of yoga: exercise, breathing, and meditation. Most students are already there for the exercise, and the meditation will come naturally as you relax and enjoy the music and your setting. But, don’t forget to breathe! This seems to be the thing that yoga beginners struggle with the most. Each exercise will be the most beneficial when you are breathing deeply and comfortably.

If at any moment you feel pain, stop right away. Yoga beginners will reap rewards in as little as 20 minutes per session, so don’t feel the need to do more than your body finds comfortable. Yoga is designed to make you feel good about yourself, so be prepared for just that!
