Pregnancy Yoga
Pregnancy yoga can be a vitalizing way of ensuring the health of both the mother and child. Pregnancy Asanas (pregnancy yoga exercises) are ways for the mother to gently stretch and tone the body. These exercises not only provide general health for the mother and the baby, the exercises will ease a natural child birth and restore the body to its shape much sooner.
Pregnancy yoga exercises can help by:
- Relieving fluid retention and cramping.
- Repositioning the baby if necessary.
- Strengthening the abdomen to aid in bowel action and appetite.
- Raise energy levels while simultaneously slowing metabolism.
- Reduce nausea, morning sickness and mood swings.
- Relieve tension around the cervix and birth canal.
In post natal care, yoga can help by:
- Restoring the uterus, abdomen and the pelvic floor.
- Relieving upper back tension and breast discomfort.
Here are 4 basic levels of a well-rounded yoga regiment for pregnancy:
- Asanas (yoga exercises) - These will gently work the reproductive organs and pelvis to ensure a smooth pregnancy and post natal period.
- Pranayama (breathing) - Proper breathing will supply an abundant supply of oxygen and health for the mother and baby.
- Meditation - therapeutic meditation will help relieve neuroses, fears, and conflicts that may arise during pregnancy.
- Nida (deep relaxation) - Also known as yogic sleep, deep relaxation will prepare the mother for continued pregnancy care.
